PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A former handyman has won more than $400,000 in a lawsuit over a penile implant that gave him a 10-year erection.
Charles "Chick" Lennon, 68, received the steel and plastic implant in 1996, about two years before Viagra went on the market. The Dura-II is designed to allow impotent men to position the penis upward for sex, then lower it.
But Lennon could not position his penis downward. He said he could no longer hug people, ride a bike, swim or wear bathing trunks because of the pain and embarrassment. He has become a recluse and is uncomfortable being around his grandchildren, his lawyer said.

In 2004, a jury awarded him $750,000. A judge called that excessive and reduced it to $400,000. On Friday, the Rhode Island Supreme Court affirmed that award in a ruling that turned on a procedural matter.
"I don't know any man who for any amount of money would want to trade and take my client's life," said Jules D'Allessandro, Lennon's attorney. "He's not a whole person."
A lawyer representing both Dura-II manufacturer Dacomed Corp. and the company's insurer declined to comment. Dacomed maintained that nothing was wrong with the implant. It filed for bankruptcy after the lawsuit was filed.
Lennon cannot get the implant removed because of health problems, including open-heart surgery, his lawyer said. Impotence drugs could not help Lennon even if he were able to have the device taken out, because tissue had be to removed for it to be implanted.

- There are very strong indications that I will be staying in Madrid for ANOTHER year, it seems i hooked up a job with IBM internships, ill be getting a measly wage, but it will be enough to sustain my "i like to get drunk regularly" type of lifestyle. This is almost a certainty...

Study finds no marijuana link to lung cancer

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Marijuana smoking does not increase a person's risk of developing lung cancer, according to the findings of a new study at the University of California Los Angeles that surprised even the researchers.
They had expected to find that a history of heavy marijuana use, like cigarette smoking, would increase the risk of cancer.
Instead, the study, which compared the lifestyles of 611 Los Angeles County lung cancer patients and 601 patients with head and neck cancers with those of 1,040 people without cancer, found no elevated cancer risk for even the heaviest pot smokers. It did find a 20-fold increased risk of lung cancer in people who smoked two or more packs of cigarettes a day.

These can be telltale signs of someone who's been smoking pot, but the longtime receptionist's only indulgence was two bran muffins she snagged from the teachers' lounge at Lake Highlands High School. Officials suspect that the muffins – eaten by at least 18 school employees – were laced with a street or over-the-counter drug. All 18 were treated at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas after complaining of dizziness, nausea, dry mouth and an increased heart rate. A Richardson school official, who did not wish to be identified, said two boxes of muffins were delivered by a man who said they were part of an Eagle Scout project. The official said the muffins appeared professionally made, and the man who delivered them was recorded on video. Authorities declined to make the video public. "You never would think your 86-year-old mother would be eating marijuana muffins. It never crosses your mind," said Ms. Greenfield's daughter, Carla Fulton. Although Ms. Greenfield couldn't stop laughing, Ms. Fulton said, the situation was frightening. She said doctors told them the muffins contained marijuana and Benadryl.

Surreal weekend... FO real!
Weno, tuve u fin de semana bastante extraordinario en A&M.
Here's a few highlights:
1. Me metí unas pintas con Martín Torrijos en un bar de la universidad que se llama Dixie Chicken. Habían Secret Service agents por todos lados, todos cuajados de ansiedad. Funny shit. La primera dama me saludó a mi antes que tuviera chance de saludarla a ella.
2. El ex-presidente H.W. Bush me choteó, me dijo que estaba orgulloso de mi porque iba a ser un Aggie (Bush se mudó a vivir en A&M), y que mi viejo era un rulz. El man suena exactamente como Dana Carvey en SNL. Casi le digo, "This aggression will not stand, man!" Pero afortunadamente realizé que el man probablemente no ha visto Big Lebowski, no huberia entendido el chiste y me hubiera pegado un Cartman-slap. Seguimos a HW por todo su museo. Mi viejo vio a dos graduandas de A&M y las invitó a tomarse una foto con Bush. Las manes estaban buenísimas asi que Bush feliz. Mientras posaban, Bush les pegó una sobada a las dos en el ras que me hizo cagarme de risa.
3. El Prólogo: Tengo una gorrita de viejo dominosero, un Manny-style flat cap pero MAS de viejo. La primera noche, el jueves, andaba ensacado y con esa gorra despues que se acabaron los eventos importantes. La Anécdota: Estaba meando en un urial del hotel, minding my own business, cuendo el presidente Torrijos entró y comenzó a mear, dos urinales abajo del mio. Torrijos comenzó a burlarse de mi gorrita -- hay un viejo de sesenta y pico años en la presidencia que se pone un flat cap todos los días, y Torrijos me dijo que jugara vivo, que el viejo ese lo más seguro trataría de robársela. Comenzé a reirme, pensando no es todos los fokines días que un presidente te grubea por tu gorra... y muchos menos cuando ta meando al lado tuyo. That's when it hit me, that the trip was fucking surreal.
4. En un almuerzo terminé sentado al lado del dean de la escuela de Liberal Arts. Media hora antes de eso, el mismo tipo estaba dirigiendo la graduación de la universidad. Resulta que el man tambien tiene un English Bulldog hiperactivo. We became fast friends. Me dio su tarjeta.
5. Como a la media noche del jueves, taba sentado en una mesa echándome un ron con agua. Era como Steinbock, excepto que en vez de los Bollos en la mesa, estaban Torrijos, mi viejo, el ministro de la presidencia, da rat, y un mexicano que se llama Carlos Slim, y unos Secret Service up in the trees. Slim es el tercer hombre más rico del mundo. Lo más raro de todo es que Slim shady and Me hablamos buco sobre libros. Le dije que se leyera unos cuentos de Cortazar. El man comenzó a apuntarlos... Me metí una guaba con Slim y Torrijos. Cool guys. Down to Earth.
Weird shit. Pasaron más vainas locas, pero tengo que comerme algo.

Queman vivos a tres presuntos ladrones en Guatemala

SANTA APOLONIA, Guatemala - Tres presuntos asaltantes de autobuses fueron quemados vivos la madrugada del jueves por enfurecidos habitantes de un poblado del oeste de Guatemala.
"La población, tomando la justicia en su mano, linchó a los individuos. Un oficial de policía quiso intervenir, pero le dijeron que nos iban a linchar a nosotros si nos metíamos", dijo a la AP el agente local de policía Gabriel Catún.
La captura de los supuestos ladrones ocurrió el miércoles por la noche cuando corrió la voz de alarma en el Caserío La Vega, a unos 55 kilómetros al noroeste de la capital.
"Los agarraron a los dos que venían robando en el bus y al otro que los estaba esperando en un carro, a los tres les pegaron y los quemaron con todo y carro", dijo uno de los vecinos que no quiso dar su nombre.
En total, la policía estima que se reunieron unos 2.000 vecinos de esta localidad. Pobladores de otros sitios cercanos fueron convocados mediante un sistema de silbatos que los líderes comunitarios tienen para emergencias.
Los cuerpos no pudieron ser identificados. "Están completamente quemados, no tienen huellas digitales", dijo a la AP el forense de Chimaltenango, Oscar Castro.
De acuerdo con los vecinos, en menos de un mes han ocurrido al menos cuatro atracos a autobuses que cubren la ruta entre la capital y este poblado de agricultoress de la étnia maya caqchikel.
Al enterarse de los hechos, el presidente Oscar Berger pidió la captura de los responsables de los asesinatos y aseguró que su gobierno no permitirá acciones de ese tipo.
El 20 de abril, un hombre y una mujer fueron linchados en un poblado cercano a Santa Apolonia cuando un grupo de vecinos los acusó de robar niños.
La misión de Naciones Unidas en el país dijo en uno de sus últimos informes antes de retirarse en 2005, que entre 1996 y ese año hubo más de 350 fallecidos en linchamientos.

¿Por qué será que el Panameño es tan negativo y auto-crítico? A todo se le saca un angulo perverso, todo se distorciona tras un lente empañado por nuestra rabia inherente... hasta las cosas buenas y bien hechas. ¿Será que Panamá a sido jodido por tántos años por su propio gobierno que la confianza ante nosotros mismos se ha desvanecido bajo una manta de descontento ácido? Yo quiero creer en un mejor futuro. Eso no se hace criticando, sino arreglando.
El pesimismo es nuestra ideología - desde que tengo conciencia, siempre ha sido así.
Nuestra pobreza espiritual es un círculo vicioso... el juega vivo... la malicia. No requeremos que nadie nos patee al suelo; nosotros mismos propagamos nuestra situación. Me decepciona esta actitud. Mientras en otros paises la nacionalidad impéra, nuestro orgullo nacional está en la bancarrota. Nuestras fiestas significan una mierda.

Hay una banda canadiense que se llama Portal. Tocan DEL CARAJO. Si creen que Tool toca en tiempos complejos, dejen que oigan esta vaina. Es como si Mars Volta, Tool, Soundgarden, Radiohead, Meshuggah, Portishead, algun genio de jazz, y otras vainas solidas se hubieran metido en una orgía romana. Lo que parieron fue Portal (no es tan pesada como Tool ni MV, pero just a good).
Psychedelic Calculus ProgRock es la única manera de definir esta vaina. Tienen talento de sobra.

Pero les aconsejo que downlodeen el CD "Element" en iTunes por el precio de un rum&coke Madrileño. Suena bastante mejor que el internet audio del link que les acabo de dar y vale la pena. Estoy seguro que les va a gustar a los que aprecian la rock inteligente y complejo. Chucha, bandas como esta me hacen sufrir el hecho que dejé el kenke.

- Mili= From militarely. To do something with disregard for authority, odds, or common sence. Ex. "Dale mili"= go anyway.
- Congo= Someone who is always taken advantage of, an idiot.
- Pichazo= A lot of. Ex. "Un pichazo de gente"= A lot of people.
- Pelonera= To slap repeatedly someone in the back of the head. Usually permormed by one or more individuals at school.
- Machin candao= To kick someone in the butt when the individual is in a bent over position.
- Raspao= Cone of scraped ice, usually filled with very colorful and sweet syrups.
- Trifulca= Huge brawl. Made popular by Barrios de Trifulca, a newspaper column.
- A Balazo= "Like a gunshot.". To do something quickly. Ex. Hazlo a Balazo = Do it quickly.
